Accountants are rigorous but not so funny people, HR managers show empathy but are utopian, sales representatives talk a lot but not listen much, secretaries are organized but too talkative, etc. So many stereotypes that we all share but that are detrimental to a “living well” together!

Any organisation today is facing challenges of an always increasing diversity which is now mature in terms of existence and advocacy. To manage it in an intelligent way and make it a source of well-being and performance, HR processes showing equal treatment for all must be implemented. Yet this is not enough as practices are confronted with preconceived ideas and archaic thoughts, among which stereotypes.

Stereotypes do play a key role in discrimination and self-censorship. They are always present and influence our choices, our judgements and our daily actions.

But where do stereotypes come from? How do they operate? why are they so widespread? What role do they play?

If they cannot be erased in a short period of time, it is possible to raise “firewalls” so as to not use them abusively in all professional situation. The objective is to turn them off, and to not feel guilty of their existence but responsible of their use.
