The use of biological methods to control pests and diseases is more and more crucial in covered horticulture and market gardening. Whether it is for organic or integrated crops, many successes do show that it is possible to prevent the development of pests by increasing the number of predatory auxiliaries or by using natural control products or specific cropping techniques. Nevertheless, some pests or diseases remain difficult to manage if we only use biological control methods. Various concrete examples from recent research in ornamental and vegetable crops will be introduced during the presentation. The international symposium of the IOBC (International Organisation for Biological and Integrated Control), organized in Brest, will be dedicated to biological control international research. One day will be opened to professionals.
The IOBC—WPRS working groups dedicated to biological and integrated control for covered horticulture and market gardening in temperate and Mediterranean areas regroup the main European and international experts (research, industry, professionals) of biological and integrated control methods. Their objective is to find applicable solutions for covered crops.
These working groups will meet in Brest, from 31st August to 3rd September during an international symposium devoted to the latest research results and new industrial breakthroughs in biological control products.
