SIVAL d'Or : DALIVAL / IFO presents the M200 rootstock (C.O.V. in progress)

Description

The M200 rootstock (C.O.V. in progress) is a cross of Robusta 5 (apple tree resistant to cold, fire blight and phytophtora) and Ottawa 3 (Canadian selection resistant to cold). The M200 rootstock (C.O.V. in progress) is a cross between Robusta 5 (an apple tree resistant to cold, fire blight and phytophtora) and Ottawa 3 (a cold-resistant Canadian selection). It originates from the East Malling Research Station program in England, for which Dalival / IFO is worldwide distributor, and was responsible for setting up trials and commercial development.Phytophthora-tolerant, M200 also exhibits good behavior to fire blight and very good behavior in relation to soil fatigue and in poor soil situations, replanting problems and constraints being a matter of concern throughout Europe. Its greatest interest is its higher level of vigor than M9 and G11, and its production level 20 to 35% higher than M9. As a result, M200 will be ideal for double-axis or multi-axis orchards, as it will have the vigor required for this type of technical management, as well as meeting the expectations of organic or in-conversion growers who are looking for rootstocks that are both more vigorous and more productive than those currently available.Last but not least, the M200 has very few shoots and bushes, which is of real interest to arboriculturists, as it reduces the need for herbicides and insecticides. These added values have been confirmed by numerous European research stations, and justify the 5 decades it took to study this rootstock before its commercial launch. This length of time, which is standard in the rootstock industry, means that an innovation such as the M200 is rare in the varietal selection industry.
